O-6-106 Interview Tips and Best Practices
👤 ROLE
Hiring Manager
🎯 PURPOSE
This tip sheet shows what steps are best to follow before, during, and after interviewing a candidate for an open position.
🔄 PROCESS
Before the interview:
Review the candidate’s application in Dayforce, such as:
- Resume and work experience.
- Answers to screening questions.
- Notes left by recruiting and other hiring managers.
- Additional documents like phone interview notes and cover letter.
During the interview:
- Provide an overview of the position, schedule, and general work pace.
- Use the interview guide and note the candidate’s answers relevant.
- Ask if they can meet the requirements of the position (i.e. driving, on-call…).
- Ensure they are still interested in the position and how long they can expect before hearing back.
After the interview:
- Upload the interview guide to Dayforce.
If the candidate is selected for the position:
- Contact the candidate’s references and conduct 2-3 reference checks. Use this as an opportunity to follow-up on any questions or concerns that came up during the interview. See process.
- Call the candidate before or right after submitting the offer letter to ensure they are looking for it, as it may be sent to their junk mail folder.
- If you do not hear back from the candidate in 48 hours, call them again and ask if they received the offer letter and if they have any questions.
If the candidate is not selected for the position:
- Leave a note in Dayforce and tag recruiting for them to let the candidate know the were not selected. Include the reason the candidate was not selected and if the candidate should be considered in the future for a similar or a different position. See process.
