O-11-919 Delayed Admission Tip Sheet
🎯 Purpose:
Use the guide below to determine how to handle scenarios involving potential delays to initiating care within 48 hours from the original referral date.
Situation: Intake has a all components of a valid referral however we have not been able to contact the client or POA/Legal representative to schedule the admission and we are nearing the 48 hours from original referral date
NOTE: We have 48 hours from time of referral to complete admissions to be in compliance with COP’s. Contact with referral source to verify client contact info must be completed within 48 hours of original referral date.

NOTE: If client POA/legal representative contacts the office after the referral has been processed as a non-admit, initiate the readmit process.
NOTE: Escalate to the Area Manager any client who has refused second attempt to complete admission.
Situation: Admission visit has been scheduled and confirmed. Clinician is unsuccessful with admission due to client not home or client refused admission for original date scheduled at the door.

Situation: We have all components of a valid referral and attempt to schedule with client or POA/legal representative is declined with an additional request to call them back at a later time to see if they will accept services.

NOTE: Company Standard for Admission attempts is set at two. If client or referral source requests services after the non-admit, initiate the readmit process.
Situation: Branch has accepted the referral with the two-way knowledge that they cannot complete admission within 48 hours based on current availability.

NOTE: It is not acceptable to get a verbal “okay” to delay care from the referral source without a written order from the provider following the client or home care services.
