🎯 Purpose

When an employee is being reassigned to a new manager, the following steps must be followed to address any pending Time Away From Work (TAFW) requests and to appropriately change the manager assignment in Dayforce. These steps preserve an accurate history of the employee’s manager assignments and prevent TAFW requests from being lost during this transition.


🔄 Process

  1. Log into Dayforce under the Manager Role.
  2. Before reassigning an employee to a new manager, address any pending TAFW requests for that employee. This step is very important; omitting this step will result in any pending TAFW requests being lost.
    1. Navigate to the manager approvals area in the upper right.

    2. Select the Filter & Sort button. A header with a variety of filters will open.

    3. Beside the Manager field, select the person icon:

    4. A pop-up window will open. Expand the list of managers by selecting the small +.

    5. Select the name of the current manager of the employee and click OK. The pop-up window will close and the Manager field will now display the current manager’s name within the filters.
    6. Adjust other filters within the Filter & Sort header:
        • Approval Type: Select Time Away From Work
        • Status: Select Pending and Cancellation Pending
        • Date Range:
          • From: enter the date 1 year prior to the current date
          • To: enter the date 1 year after the current date

            EXAMPLE OF DATE RANGE

            If current date is 8/22/2025, use 8/22/2024 to 8/22/2026

            In the example above, the current date was 8/22/2025
    7. Ensure the toggle for "Actionable" is On

    8. Select Apply

    9. If any TAFW requests populate for the employee whose manager is being changed, address them before proceeding, ensuring no requests remain in a pending status.

      If no pending requests populate, you may proceed.

⚠️  DO NOT PROCEED with following steps until all pending TAFW requests have been addressed.

  1. Navigate to People in the upper right.

  2. From your listed team members, open the profile of the manager who is needing the new team member assigned to them by clicking on their name.

  3. On the left, select the dropdown for Work and then select Management Assignments.

  4. Scroll down to the Managed Employees section.

  5. To assign an employee to that manager, select Add. An empty row will be added.

  6. Select the empty space under the Managed Employee column and select the correct employee from the dropdown.

  7. The effective date will default to the current date.

    💡  If the effective date should be different, select the effective date field and choose the correct effective date for the change.

  8. Save your changes by selecting Save in the upper left.

  9. After saving these changes, the previous manager’s assignment to this employee will end the day prior to the new assignment’s effective date.

    💡  If needing to look back at previous assignment history, a manager’s previous employee assignments can be viewed by selecting All above their Managed Employees section.
